A life insurance agent can be a captive agent or an independent agent.
A captive life insurance agent, or insurance agent, represents only one life insurance company. A captive agent specializes in the products and services of one insurance company and most likely works directly for the insurance company by receiving a salary.
An independent life insurance agent, or insurance broker, can represent more than one life insurance company. An independent agent is knowledgeable of the products and services of the various insurance companies they are appointed by and works indirectly for these insurance companies by receiving a commission per each insurance policy sold.
